    Duties

    Summary

    You will serve as a Physician Assistant in the Occupational Health Department, Public Health Services, Naval Health Clinic Hawaii, Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam, Hawaii of NAVAL HEALTH CLINIC HAWAII.

    THIS IS AN EXPEDITED HIRING AUTHORITY ANNOUNCEMENT. Section 1599c, title 10, United States Code provides that the Secretary of Defense can designate positions as shortage positions and recruit and appoint highly qualified persons to these positions.

    Responsibilities

    • Diagnose, treat and refer a broad spectrum of illnesses and injuries presented to the Occupational Health Department, Naval Health Clinic.
    • Provide appropriate consultation to the patient's and command concerning the patient's condition, disposition and duty status/fitness for duty.
    • Perform general occupational and special physical examinations in accordance with current instructions.
    • Direct support personnel in the clinic assigned during the performance of clinical care or related administrative tasks.

    Qualifications

    Applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must Graduate from a physician assistant educational program, accredited by the Accreditation Review Committee on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or its predecessors, at a college, university, or educational institution that is accredited by an accrediting body or organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
    AND
    Successful completion of the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) examination; must maintain status as a certified physician assistant, including completion of all requirements for Continuing Medical Education (CME) and re-certification.
    AND
    Licensure: must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician Assistant from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

    AND

    SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: This position has a selective placement factor needed in order to qualify. The actual Selective Placement Factor is a Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification. Failure to possess this factor WILL result in an ineligible rating. Possession of the factor must be verifiable submitting a copy of your certification with your application.

    POSITIVE EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: This position has a Positive Education Requirement. In order to verify that you meet the positive education qualifications for this position, you MUST submit a complete copy of their transcripts or an itemized list of college courses which includes equivalent information from the transcript (Course title, semester/quarter hours and grade). Failure to submit this information WILL result in an ineligible rating.

    In addition to the Basic Requirements and Selective Placement Factor for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

    • Utilizing a wide range of occupational health concepts, principles, and practices to apply advance assessment, diagnostic and prescriptive techniques to independently plan and manage the health care of employees.
    • Ordering and interpreting laboratory data, radiological images, electrocardiographs, pelvic and pap smears and other diagnostic studies as appropriate
    • Documenting all information in an electronic health record and include appropriate information to substantiate accurate clinical coding information.
    • Utilizing personal computer, Internet, AHLTA and CHCS I or similar computer systems for patient input and data retrieval.
