The Customer Service Representative position is covered under the National Association of Government Employees (NAGE) bargaining unit. The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) is the primary law enforcement agency for the District of Columbia.
It is the mission of the Metropolitan Police Department to safeguard the District of Columbia and protect its residents and visitors by providing the highest quality of police service with the integrity, compassion, and a commitment to innovation that integrates people, technology and progressive business systems.
This position is located with the Metropolitan Police Department, Executive Office of the Chief of Police. The incumbent serves as a central point of contact between callers and the Executive Office of the Chief of Police. The incumbent will answer citizen questions, inquiries and concerns of a routine and non-technical nature. Utilize knowledge of the Department and its resources to respond problems and in response to citizen and visitor inquiries.
The incumbent must be able to relay a clear understanding of the Department's services and how/where to obtain detailed information or assistance. Clarify and explain the mission and function of departmental organizational components.
Identify issues and resolve the situation in a timely and professional manner. Solicit pertinent information from callers, to remain calm when interacting with excited or irate callers in order to obtain necessary information. Take complaints and congratulatory notices from citizens/visitors to the City.
Refer visitors and telephone inquiries to the appropriate destination. Refer inquiries to the MPD website, instruct callers on how to file letters of appreciation or complaints. Direct callers to their neighborhood Police District regarding community partnership, PSA representative, etc.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
A knowledge of the Metropolitan Police Department's organizational units, the mission and functions.
Demonstrated ability to conduct office business in a professional, tactful and courteous manner.
Knowledge sufficient to operate the personal computer, office equipment, such as, facsimile, copies, and the personal computer.
Ability to use proper English, grammar, spelling and punctuations. Ability to listen, to obtain information and to draw conclusions.
Two years of college experience preferred
At least 1 year previous work experience
Work is performed in an office setting. Incumbent is subject to a rotating shift, and works on weekends and holidays. The Metropolitan Police Department is a 24-hour, 7 days a week operation. Your position may be considered an essential position, and you may be subject to rotating shifts, to include weekends.
