Description of Job

The Social Work / Counselor II position is a practice assignment that functions under the supervision of the Social Work Director which designs and implements psychosocial and substance disorder treatment to patients utilizing an appropriate degree of expertise and independence. Evidenced based treatment and interventions provided include: 1) individual, family, and group therapies; 2) affective education; 3) collateral contact with community agencies and individuals; 4) discharge planning including financial benefits development, placements, and other resource development; 5) assessment of substance use disorders; 6) active participation in the development of individual treatment plans; 7) active participation and further development of the CMHIFL Recovery Continuum; 8) Interface with the Trauma Informed Care Department. Provide ongoing evidenced based psychotherapy to patients in individual, family, and group settings in order to enhance positive mental health growth and stability and to achieve and maintain a drug-free lifestyle. May complete substance use assessments under the supervision of the supervising social worker and or social work director. Maintain CAC III Certification level in good standing without restrictions and participate in required training to enhance services to CMHIFL patients and maintain licensure. Will attend weekly supervision.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Sociology, Human Services, Social Work, Public Administration, or other related field; AND one year experience in Addictions counseling.

Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree
One year of experience working in a locked psychiatric hospital
One year of experience working on a multidisciplinary team
CAC III licensure

Substitutions:
Additional experience will substitute for the Bachelor's degree on a year for year basis. Additional education will substitute for the experience on a year for year basis. Applicants using this substitution MUST supply unofficial transcripts before the application deadline to the Human Resources office; applications requesting this substitution without transcripts will NOT be considered.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must have the physical strength to restrain a hostile/combative client
  • Must have the physical strength to defend themselves and others and to prevent the client from hurting themselves
  • A pre-employment background check will be conducted as part of the selection process. Should your background check reveal any charges or convictions, it is your responsibility to provide the CDHS Background Unit with an official disposition of any charges.
  • Pre-employment Drug Testing/fingerprints
  • A valid CO driver's license required.
  • Must maintain CAC III Licensure.
Appeal Rights:
