Culinary Operations Assistant Jobs Vacancy in Institute Culinary Education New York Jobs Details:

POSITION SUMMARY:

The award-winning Institute of Culinary Education (ICE) is seeking part-time Culinary Operations Assistants (COA). This position will support the ICE culinary operations for the culinary, pastry, baking, recreational classes, and special events. The COA provides support to the chef instructors during and after class.

SCHEDULE: Part-time Evenings and/or Part-time Weekends

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Check quantities of supplies in kitchen/storage cabinets and replenish as needed
  • Assist in the assembly of food and equipment pulls needed for class
  • Assist in the receiving and storing of vendor deliveries
  • Assist in daily maintenance of refrigerators and the repacking of food items
  • Assist in the processing of returns
  • Prepare City Harvest donations for pick up
  • Reconcile inventory daily and participate in monthly inventory reviews
  • Respond to instructor requests for ingredients/equipment
  • Assist in re-packing of returned food items
  • Assist in upkeep of classrooms/kitchens including ,but not limited to, washing dishes and equipment, sweeping and mopping floor, disposing of garbage, cleaning refrigerators and freezers, and overall maintenance of classrooms/kitchens
  • Assist in timely removal of trash, recycling and food waste

When assisting a chef instructor in the classroom/kitchen:

  • Select required items for class ingredient pulls; review pull-sheets to products pulled to ensure accurate item selection
  • Deliver ingredient and equipment pulls to classroom
  • Ensure proper room set-up for classes including equipment, place settings, knives, cutting boards, food items, and guest refreshments
  • During class, assist the instructor with any instructional ingredient/equipment requirements
  • Assist instructor and guests throughout the class in the preparation of ingredients, cooking of food and use of equipment
  • Throughout the class, gather and clean dirty dishes. Return clean dishes to appropriate space in classroom/kitchens
  • Breakdown and clean kitchens.
  • Ensure equipment (pots, pans, dishes, silverware and glasses) are properly cleaned and stored
  • Review beginning and ending inventory to ensure products and equipment are accounted for at end of class
  • Prepare remaining food and equipment are returned to Operations Department, and ensure all other food and equipment are properly returned, or stored in classroom or appropriate cabinets
  • Complete COA report and classroom sign-out sheets for all classes
  • Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule which includes evenings and weekends
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • One (1) year experience in restaurant or food industry highly preferred
  • Strong interest in cooking and the culinary world
  • Familiarity with weights and measures a strong plus
  • Able and willing to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to stand for up for long periods of times
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Able to interact in a collaborative manner with others
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Able to multi-task and execute instructions
  • Able to set up and break down rooms for classes
  • Punctuality and good attendance
