Strategen seeks a professional, organized, and highly motivated candidate to join our team as a full-time Operations Associate. Based in our Berkeley, California office, the Operations Associate will provide critical administrative support to the California Energy Storage Alliance (CESA), California’s premier advocacy group for energy storage and clean energy. Areas of focus include business administration, event production, marketing and communications, and membership services. This Operations Associate position provides many opportunities for professional growth and skill development, as it touches different aspects of our business.

Strategen’s ideal candidate enjoys managing multiple projects of different sizes and remains organized and detail-oriented in a fast-paced small business. The candidate has a “can do” attitude toward problem-solving and has an appetite for process improvements that result in time-savings for the team and an improved client experience. This position reports to the Membership Development Manager.


  • Operations Support (30%)
  • Project-manager operations and business administration improvements
  • Respond to external inquiries (phone and email) in a timely and professional manner
  • Serve as a logistical and administrative liaison between external parties and CESA staff, including assisting with meeting scheduling and preparation, creating presentation decks, greeting guests, and taking notes during meetings
  • Implement updates to the CESA website (storagealliance.org)
  • Handle miscellaneous office administrative tasks (calendaring, webinar launching, IT troubleshooting, printing, travel coordination, filing, scanning, printing, mailing etc) as needed
  • Keep online files organized and up-to-date, and saved on shared drive
  • Over time, implement new CRM system
  • Membership Services Support (20%)
  • Maintain and troubleshoot the CESA membership database, listserv sign ups, member portal
  • Manage certain external email communications with membership (including content creation), such as direct member outreach
  • Launch webinar platform for working group calls, as needed
  • Schedule and calendar calls with CESA members and other external parties
  • Under direction of the Membership Development Manager, standardize repetitive processes, such as new member onboarding trainings and materials, member departure survey
  • Work with the CESA team improve member retention (such as tracking membership engagement)
  • Marketing & Communications Support (20%)
  • Coordinate with communications department on implementation of specific tasks identified within the CESA marketing plan and keep CESA team to task
  • Implement the promotion of CESA webinars and events, and maintain CESA’s social media (Twitter, LinkedIn)
  • Project manage new CESA website (dependent on experience)
  • Event Planning/Coordination (15%)
  • Project manage logistics and marketing promotion for CESA events, including annual events Market Development Forum, Members Meeting, Lobby Day
  • Establish and meet project timeframes, manage vendors, coordinate speakers, sponsors, invitees, and volunteers, and develop of event presentations
  • Keep team members on schedule for assigned tasks
  • Execute marketing and event promotion plan for events under the direction of the communications director, including email and social media announcements, website updates, customized attendee invites, onsite promotional collateral
  • Provide seasonal support for Energy Storage North America (ESNA) (esnaexpo.com) and other events produced by ESNA (as needed)
  • Business Development Support (15%)
  • Provide administrative support during the seasonal CESA membership drive, including sending email campaigns, tracking renewal status, contract and invoicing members
  • On an ongoing basis, handle general sales tasks (field inquiries via web, email, and phone, process membership sign ups, update marketing collateral to reflect change to membership)
  • Maintain business contact database of potential and current members


Required Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree from an accredited university
  • Excellent command of business-level English, both written and verbal
  • 1-3 years of experience in operations, marketing, events, combination, or similar role
  • Friendly demeanor and polished customer service skills
  • Professional standards for discretion, confidentiality, and personal accountability
  • Emotionally mature, honest, and ethical
  • Intermediate or higher proficiency in MS Office Suite (Mail, Calendar, Documents, Excel, PowerPoint)

Additional consideration given for the following skills and experience:

  • Creating and implementing organizational policies and processes
  • Event management
  • Marketing campaigns
  • Web design
  • Graphic design (Adobe Creative Suite – e.g. Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.)
  • IT management/troubleshooting
  • Experience with Skype for Business, other webinar tools, MailChimp, Social Media; Drupal, WordPress, and/or Squarespace; familiarity with HTML and FTP
  • Familiarity with clean energy technologies, policies, stakeholders

$45k - $70k Base salary (commensurate with experience) plus bonus
