Description

The City of Anaheim Public Library seeks enthusiastic and dynamic Part Time Librarian for the Ponderosa Joint-Use Library to provide excellent public service in a team-oriented library system. Along with performing professional librarian duties, the Librarian will conduct outreach to our richly diverse community, form partnerships various organizations, be savvy with grants, and lead and organize the various library programs.

Candidates must possess a Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS), Master of Library Science (MLS), or Master of Science in Library Science (MSLS) degree from an accredited college or university and at least one (1) year of experience as a professional librarian. Along with excellent English communications skills, candidates must be fluent in Spanish. Ideal candidates will possess professional librarian experience from a public library and possess experience with grant writing, community outreach, programming, and fostering partnerships.

This is a part time position, typically assigned 30 hours per week with no minimum number of hours guaranteed.

About Anaheim Public Library...

There are nine Library branches serving the City of Anaheim and surrounding communities, including our self-service branch at ARTIC Transportation Center, and the Anaheim Heritage Center which houses our local history collections. We also have a Bookmobile that serves the Community Development Block Grant neighborhoods in the city.
Essential Functions
Provide assistance to patrons, including children, young adults, adults and senior citizens in the effective use of Library collection, facilities and services; demonstrate the use of library resources, tools, equipment, and electronic reference sources; assist with digital downloads.
Respond to suggestions, requests, or concerns from library patrons and community members.
Conduct effective reference interview to assess and satisfy customer information needs.
Assist in collection management for an assigned area of the library; review and analyze collection use; recommend books and materials for purchase based on patron needs and awareness of various cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Answer readers' advisory and general reference questions from telephone, online, and in-person queries by accessing a variety of print and non-print resources including electronic resources; perform bibliographic searches using both print and non-print sources.
Develop, implement, and evaluate services and programs in a designated area such as adult services, children's services, youth services, and outreach; develop new services and programs that meet community needs.
Perform collection development activities, including materials selection and weeding, and sorting donated materials; select books and materials with attention to the budget dedicated to this purpose.
Assist in developing and implementing library policies and procedures; act as moderator in difficult patron interactions, applying and implementing library policies and guidelines appropriately, modifying or adjusting these on a case by case basis and referring unresolved issues to a Senior or Principal Librarian or management; addresses building malfunction and emergency maintenance issues, makes schedule adjustments for unplanned absences, and open/close the facility.
Perform outreach services to community groups and schools for adult and youths, explaining Library programs and encouraging use of Library resources; represent the department at professional meetings as required and promotes library services.
Perform special reading and research and participates in professional meetings, workshops, and conferences and continuing education programs, as appropriate to remain abreast of current literature and professional trends.
Perform grant information research; assist in grant program development and proposal writing. Collect and analyze data and draft memos and reports.
Maintain and troubleshoots electronic and online resources.
May assume basic operating responsibility for a Library Branch in the absence of the branch supervisor.
Plan and direct the work of assigned non-librarian staff or volunteers.
Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
Qualifications
Equivalent to a Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS), Master of Library Science (MLS), or Master of Science in Library Science (MSLS) degree from an accredited college or university; one (1) year of experience as a professional librarian.
Demonstrate knowledge of principles, practices, methods and materials of an automated public library system; materials selection, acquisition and development; materials classification and cataloging; principles and techniques of reference research of print and electronic data sources; integrated catalog and circulation systems; current Library technologies and automated systems including computer software applications, Internet, Web-pages and; community analysis techniques and trends in public libraries; strong working knowledge of personal computer operations including software installation and basic workstation operations; reading program development and presentation; basic math and statistics.
The ability to assess community needs related to collection development and programming; maintain confidentiality; work independently and exercise judgment and resolve patron problems; understand information seeking behaviors, learning styles, the organization of knowledge; make public presentations; train and provide functional supervision of support staff and volunteers; analyze data and write memos and reports; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; work effectively and cooperatively with co-workers and the general public.
Possess a valid California Driver's License.
