Duties

    • Summary

      You will serve as a Forestry Technician in the Range Management Division of MCAS BEAUFORT SC.

      As a Forestry Technician, you will be performing a full range of forestry duties in the management and protecting of timber and other natural resources.

      This announcement is being used to recruit qualified individuals, under the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Direct Hire Authority, authorized by 5 United States Code (U.S.C.), Section 3304 and 5 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 337, Subpart B.       Responsibilities

      • You will develop short range work plans and execute those plans in cooperation with other division personnel.
      • You will develop and implement changes and procedure modifications to this and other work plans when necessary.
      • You will determine, collect, and process forestry inventory data for timber stand prescriptions.
      • You will assist in the technical specifications for timber sale, site preparation, tree planting and road maintenance contracts.
      • You will report deficiencies and recommend corrective action to the Forester and/or contracting officer.

      Qualifications

      In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: managing forests/woodlands with emphasis on timber management and sale administration program, and maintaining healthy, productive and resilient ecosystems.

      In addition to the experience requirements described in the group coverage standard, seasonal experience may also be creditable. A season of experience is considered to be a period of no less than 3 months of continuous employment on a seasonal basis. Shorter periods may be combined to make a season, provided a total of at least 3 months' experience is shown. For any period where the work exceeded 3 months, the excess work is credited towards an additional season of experience. One season of experience is qualifying for GS-2; 2 seasons of experience qualify for GS-3; and 4 seasons of experience qualify for GS-4. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include:
      • Forestry aid or technician work.
      • Engineering, range, or soil conservation technician work that involved the application of cultural, resource conservation, or land management practices on nonforest or ranch lands when combined with knowledge of forestry operations and equipment.
      • Farming or ranching work that involved application of cultural and soil and water conservation practices, including safety and use of equipment, and that provided a basic understanding of land use.
      • Forest or range fire control, prevention, or suppression work.
