Cad Designer Jobs Vacancy in Alion Science And Technology Alexandria Jobs Details:
Under general supervision, prepares moderately complex sketches, drawings and models on design projects. Works independently on the development of original designs or adaptations requiring specialized experience. May plan, conduct and direct smaller projects working with or taking direction from the technical staff.
Duties and Responsibilities
Draws structural, mechanical, or electrical features of related structures and equipment.
Reviews literature, standards and current practices relevant to the solution of assigned projects.
Prepares working plans and detailed drawings from sketches and notes received from Engineers or Senior Designers.
Calculates and lays out dimensions, angles, curvature of parts, materials to be used, and relationship of various parts to the entire structure.
Creates preliminary and/or final drawings and models using standard drafting techniques using computer assisted design.
Confers with design originator, appropriate engineering and other personnel in finalizing design concepts.
May review completion and implementation of systems additions and/or enhancements and recommends corrections in technical application and analysis to management.
May supervise other Designers on some phase of design.
Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Education and Experience
Associate’s degree, or technical training in a related discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work experience and at least 2 years related experience. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering preferred.
In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for comparable work experience. Work experience may be adjusted for highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience for positions involving new technology or labor market shortages as reflected by market survey data.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Related experience interpreting design requirements and preparing design alternatives.
Knowledge of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and/or traditional drafting methods. Must be familiar with AutoCAD and either Inventor or Solidworks.
Familiarity with shipboard machinery systems desired.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
A security clearance of an appropriate level will be required after employment.
