Associate Engineer Jobs Vacancy in University California Santa Barbara Santa Barbara Jobs Details:

The Associate Engineer designs, maintains and performs daily operation of HDAE's Building Automation and controls and Energy Management Systems. Assists the Senior Superintendents in evaluating current and future control system hardware and software to ensure HDAE building systems remain functional and are capable of being upgraded as technology permits. Provides direction and guidance to HDAE's Project Group for building automation and control systems and serves as technical support during project construction and commissioning. Serves as Project Manager for all HDAE related construction or control system projects.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum Niagara Ax Certification with minimum 3 years field experience installing, programming and commissioning Niagara Ax Building Automation Control Systems. Demonstrated a minimum of 5 years in the HVAC trade or equivalent education in Mechanical Engineering. Must have a broad understanding of theoretical principals of thermodynamics and heat transfer. Experience working in Facilities Operations in a University, or like setting. Ability to interact as a team member with sensitivity towards a multi-cultural work environment. Possess a thorough working knowledge of energy management strategies and building control schemes. Thorough understanding of water and steam boiler systems and water treatment. The candidate should be able to demonstrate increasing level of job responsibilities including project management.

Desirable Requirements

Effective communication skills and ability to present information to Senior Management is highly desirable. Background in Niagara Ax, BacNet, Lon, Modbus, N2 and Tridium Systems. Understanding of HVAC Systems and Lighting Control Systems in buildings. Project Development and Life Cycle Analysis.

Energy and Control Engineering

Serves as the primary area representative for all issues related to Building Automation and Control Systems:

1. Responsible for the daily operation and maintenance of campus housing Energy Management and Control System hardware and software.

2. Prepares engineering reports to describe existing systems and/or existing deficiencies and recommends engineering fixes to increase system efficiency/effectiveness.

3. Coordinates with HDAE Project Coordinator and Energy Manager assure that proper control design is incorporated into construction and remodel projects during design development, construction and post occupancy phases.

4. Researches new control/automation technologies and materials. Trains appropriate trades staff as necessary.

5. Coordinates with contractors to evaluate newly constructed systems and assures all documentation, new software revisions, graphics, databases and as-built drawings are complete and code compliant.

6. Aids in the development and implementation of building commissioning protocols and strategies.

7. Provides commissioning services for new and existing buildings as requested by HDAE Projects team.

8. Works with Residential Operations to design and maintain the control network infrastructure.

9. Develops and implements a maintenance program and schedule that will assure proper operation of all HDAE electronic control hardware, software and databases. Coordinates closely with Residential Operations maintenance teams.

10. Analyzes existing building and campus wide systems with regard to modernization and energy consumption.

11. Assists with the development of engineering solutions to resolve operational deficiencies and/or reduce energy consumption.

Provides leadership and technical support to campus housing concerning the monitoring and modification of building automation and control systems.

1. Assists Residential Operations Trades in identifying and correcting building operational issues.

2. Implements HDAE Demand Response Program and coordinates with FM energy management unit to verify performance measures.

3. Coordinates with HDAE LEED Program Manager to ensure all new construction and renovation projects control systems comply with LEED NC/EB requirements.

4. Assists the Residential Operations Energy Manager to ensure accurate reporting of energy information for the Campus Green House Gas Management plan and the California Climate Action Registry.

5. Works with Energy Manager, EH&S and SBAPCD (Santa Barbara Air Pollution Control District) to ensure compliance and reporting of UCSB's emission levels and other reporting requirements connected to HDAE infrastructure.
