Position Scope:

The Reliability Engineering Supervisor drives continuous improvement for reliability at the Pensacola Mill. They lead the mill’s electrical and mechanical reliability engineers in the prevention, identification/elimination of equipment failures. This position sets vision, goals, and objectives to ensure the reliability organization’s efforts are aligned with mill, division, and company goals. There are approximately six to eight reliability engineers under the leadership of this position along with ten to twelve hourly PdM maintenance personnel. This position is responsible for safety, environmental compliance, employee engagement, one to ones, team development, efficiency, and reliability. They interact with mill operations, maintenance, and management personnel on a day-to-day basis while performing their duties. This position works within the reliability team in Maintenance and Engineering and reports to the Mill Reliability Leader (MRL).

Position Responsibilities:

The Reliability Engineering Supervisor will work closely with a variety of different areas throughout the mill including operations, maintenance, technical, and management.

  • Work with the area Operations and Maintenance staff to facilitate effective strategic maintenance initiatives that support achievement of reliability goals
  • Provide leadership and support to Instrument and Electrical Precision Maintenance and Mechanical Precision Maintenance programs in the mill
  • Drive root cause failure analysis program on reliability incidents especially for chronic reliability problems
  • Identify and implement reliability best practices from across the mill, business, and company
  • Support the mill’s manufacturing work systems (MWS) process to prioritize and plan daily work, routine outages, and annual outages including operational, maintenance, and contractor tasks
  • Utilize LEAN/Six Sigma principles as a tool to improve/sustain maintenance performance
  • Actively support the planning effort for annual shutdown to include; job planning, job coordination, resource planning and financial management
  • Facilitate and sustain forward progress in attaining all objectives of IP Global Manufacturing System reliability elements (13) in the mill
  • Facilitate self-assessments and peer assessments for GMS Reliability Elements
  • Lead ongoing improvement efforts in reliability pacesetter elements
  • Provide visible and active leadership in delivering excellent safety results
  • Directly lead and actively engage team to provide excellent results in reliable and cost effective operations using key operating windows and key performance indicators as guidance
  • Report and communicate safety and performance measurements against objectives
  • Support data gathering and timely response to reliability related incidents
  • Conduct one to one developmental discussions and coach employees to accomplish team goals
  • Provide direct support for and participation in the mill’s structured cost reduction efforts/teams
  • Lead and deliver results through GMS based processes and systems
  • Maintain strong relationships with other Fibers Business Unit personnel as well as operating and maintenance department leaders
  • Enforce mill rules and agreements, taking corrective actions as needed to address concerns Coordinate training and development for crew
  • Actively use and improve upon existing systems for managing daily operations
  • Coordinate training and development for the crew
  • Initiate and facilitate problem solving (TCC)
  • Understand and promote Manufacturing Excellence tools and processes
  • Support 5S program for the area and drive improvement projects, audit systems, and excellent results
  • Provide support for capital project development and implementation
  • Provide support for budgeting cycle targeted at delivering year over year savings
  • Implement systems to improve/sustain results
  • Facilitate the implementation of new procedures and controls required by the change in facilities, products, and corporate policies and procedures
  • Fulfill weekend duty team leadership role for Maintenance, Engineering and/or the supported department
  • Lead and sustain continual improvement on Manufacturing Excellence culture

Required Experience:

Minimum of five (5) years of related reliability engineering experience with at least two (2) years in industrial manufacturing. Experience working in a fully integrated paper mill is strongly preferred. Bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering or equivalent practical experience is required. Experience working with reliability improvement methods, root cause failure analysis systems, and predictive maintenance tools is required. Must be experienced using a computer and skilled in word processing, spreadsheet programs (Microsoft Excel), SAP business systems, and other databases.
