The Studio Assistant will create a warm and welcoming environment for visitors, share the story of Ben's Bells, assist with the creation of Bens Bells and merchandise, conduct retail transactions, and help with occasional events. This position is designated to report primarily to the Phoenix studio but may be assigned to other locations as needed by the organization.
Represent the mission of and story behind the project to the community
Assist in studio operations including opening, closing and keeping a clean and orderly studio
Serve as retail, event, and studio assistant for Phoenix studio as needed (nights and weekends possible)
Produce and assemble hand-made items, including loading and firing of the kiln.
Manage volunteers and community service members during open studio hours and special events (including verification of hours worked/volunteered)
Ensure that merchandise, studio, and office supplies are fully stocked at all times
Conduct retail sales and complete daily accounting sheet as needed
Other duties as assigned
Two years’ experience in customer service
Experience in ceramics or other detail-oriented arts/craft preferred but not required
Retail experience required, proficiency with Point of Sale system
Background in non-profit or volunteer work preferred
Basic computer skills
College degree preferred but not required

Excellent people skills including an ability to partner with a diverse team of staff and volunteers
Flexible and able to manage shifting priorities; can work within an ambiguous, fast-moving environment
This position requires a self-starting individual, ready to take initiative and ownership of projects
Familiarity and desire to continually improve volunteer experience and studio operations
Personal qualities of kindness, integrity, credibility, and commitment to the mission of Ben’s Bells
Excellent attention to detail with an ability to create effective systems and processes
Pay & Benefits
The position is part-time and currently budgeted at 10-15 hours per week. Friday and Saturday shifts required.
