Episcopal Community Services of San Francisco (ECS) has worked at the forefront of

homelessness – and innovative strategies to alleviate it – since 1983. We are an independent non-profit,

committed to housing as the solution to homelessness and operate across the full continuum of care:

  • 12 permanent supportive housing sites with on-site wellness services for single adults, families, and

  • 2 Navigation Centers for people exiting encampment living and connecting with rapid rehousing services;
  • 2 24/7 emergency shelters, plus staffing and day-to-day management of the city’s Interfaith Winter
Shelter and Emergency Pop-up Shelters;

  • staffing and managing the City’s Coordinated Entry to Housing system for single adults;
  • SF START: a roving team of in-shelter behavioral health specialists that offers mental health
assessment, supports, and referrals for guests of all of San Francisco’s shelters.

ECS also runs a senior day-center, an adult education center, a culinary training program for homeless and

recently homeless students, and the CHEFS Kitchens social enterprise.

ECS serves approximately 7,000 individuals annually with an operational budget of $33 million, assets of $5

million, nearly 300 employees, and thousands of devoted volunteers. Additionally, ECS provides partnership

management and asset management services to three housing affiliates, with additional annual operations of $6

million and assets of $42 million.

The published hourly wage for a Case Manager III is either $22.37 or $23.39 depending on education/degree

and experience. Full-time employees and those working at least twenty hours per week enjoy a comprehensive

benefits package.

The Case Manager III will serve residents as part of the Support Services team at The Alder to provide intensive

social work and support services to the formerly homeless adults who reside there. Many of the residents will

have special needs related to severe mental health and substance abuse challenges, domestic violence, histories

of trauma, etc. Services include, but are not limited to, clinical assessment, supportive counseling and

consultation with residents, community program and benefit referrals, support groups and community-building

activities, as well as other general case manager responsibilities.


The successful candidate for a Case Manager III position must hold EITHER:

  • a Master’s Degree in psychology, counseling social work, or related field PLUS at least two years
experience closely related to the job description


  • a Bachelor’s degree in psychology, counseling social work, or related field PLUS at least three years
experience closely related to the job description.

Candidates with previous experience working with homeless and low-income individuals are preferred for this

position and will be given first consideration. Given the specific needs of the residents we serve, candidates with

direct work experience related to mental health, substance abuse, domestic violence, HIV/AIDS, and/or child

welfare will also be given primary consideration.

Because of the amount of documentation and paperwork involved with ongoing service provision to residents,

this candidate must have strong administrative and organizational skills. Excellent computer skills are required.

Strong interpersonal skills, a team approach, and the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing

are essential.

Each Case Manager must be able to quickly assess and respond to a variety of situations, including medical

emergencies, conflict resolution and intervention, as well as other resident emergencies. S/He will have a working

knowledge of crisis intervention techniques and implementation, as well as a strong knowledge of social services

and mental health resources for low-income families. Also, the successful candidate will possess the ability to

facilitate effective support groups and other group activities.

OTHER: Must secure finger image screening and annual TB screening. Must be able to meet physical

requirements of the position which may include long periods at a desk and/or computer workstation.
