Legal Reform And Resource Specialist Jobs Vacancy in Global Rights For Women Minneapolis Jobs Details:

Position Description:

The Legal Reform and Resource Specialist reports to the Executive Director and Director of International Training on executing Global Rights for Women’s programming. This includes managing outreach to both international and United States partners and creating, coordinating and carrying out GRW trainings and presentations, research, writing, interaction with partners. The Legal Reform and Resource specialist will identify and monitor developing legal policies and best practices in the field of systemic reform on violence against women. The Specialist is responsible for cultivating and managing GRW’s volunteer base of legal professionals.

Responsibilities

Partner Relationship Cultivation, Outreach, Training, and Speaking Engagements:

  • Collaborate with the Director International Training Director to plan, conduct and coordinate GRW trainings, presentations, and workshops from planning through post-engagement follow-up, in conjunction with outside agencies upon request.
  • Maintain active communication with GRW international partners to assess their needs and priorities, and provide individual consultation to partners on issues arising in their country’s handling of cases of violence against women and girls.
  • Support development of training and workshop curriculums and events and in collaboration with GRW experts and consultants, from the choice of appropriate themes, topics, and learning objectives, to the creation of dynamic agendas and the selection of compelling speakers and trainers, and through post-training/workshop communication and deliverables.
  • Keep accurate records on training and legal reform support activities for progress reports submitted to donors and funders.
  • Develop distinct training and workshop budgets, and manage operation of same.
  • Consult with other allied organizations or government agencies on related local, national, or international projects.
  • Develop outreach to further GRW’s thought leadership on legal reform regarding violence against women.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of International Training and the Chief Executive Officer.

Assistance to International Partners:

  • Respond to the requests of international partners who are striving to improve their justice and community systems response to violence against women and girls.
  • Research and analyze best practices in legal and policy reform relating to violence against women and girls.
  • Incorporate international human rights law into all GRW programming, whether local, national, or international.
  • Draft legal commentaries on laws and amendments addressing violence against women and girls.
  • Research and draft human rights reports on violence against women and girls.

Program Development:

  • Develop and draft proposals for projects aimed at improving justice system responses to gender-based violence internationally, including analysis of systemic problems and their causes.
  • Ensure that GRW programming focuses on the many intersecting forms of oppression that affect women and girls throughout the world when working with organizations on legal reform and systems change.
  • Write or contribute to articles on related topics for GRW’s communications, including its e-newsletter and blog, and for local, national, and international publications to further GRW’s thought leadership in the United States and abroad.

Volunteer Program Management:

  • Recruit and coordinate volunteer program of law students, legal interns, and volunteer attorneys to assist in GRW’s work.
  • Assist in providing appropriate training opportunities to volunteer GRW lawyers and law students.
  • Supervise, review, and revise volunteer program research and writing contributions.

Qualifications

  • Experience in women’s human right to be free from violence or legal reform on violence against women (5+ years)
  • Proven commitment to social justice and/or the practice of law in the public interest
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting trainings and public speaking; experience with training law enforcement and justice personnel and advocates on issues of violence against women preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Demonstrated, exceptional writing and oral communication skills
  • Outstanding ability to apply critical thinking and exercise good judgment with clarity in order to plan and execute presentations, trainings, and other GRW-sponsored initiatives
  • Ability to work well with diverse groups and to work effectively as part of a team
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally multiple times a year
  • Related education in international human rights law or legal experience preferred
  • Proficiency or fluency secondary language skills preferred
