NAHB is seeking an experienced lobbyist to advocate for the housing industry on Capitol Hill and in Washington, D.C., on energy and climate issues and all other NAHB priority issues in a general manner. The director will advise membership on energy and climate issues and other legislative and political issues. Responsibilities also include analyzing legislation and government programs, while developing and implementing legislative, grassroots, and political strategies that are communicated to NAHB’s membership, Congress, the Administration, and national political parties. The director will also educate, update, and activate NAHB’s grassroots network in his/her assigned region in an effort to influence Capitol Hill and the political process, and will direct political outreach in assigned region and advise NAHB’s membership on political support for candidates in assigned region. This is to ensure the voice of the nation’s home builders is heard by federal legislators throughout the legislative and political process.
The successful candidate will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, demonstrated ability to analyze and synthesize complex legislative information and demonstrated ability to balance a heavy workload with competing deadlines. Candidates must be able to address changing priorities and work well under pressure.
A minimum of four years of federal legislative experience is required, either on Capitol Hill, a federal government agency, political campaigns, or at another trade association. Knowledge of specific issue area or assigned region is preferred. Candidates should also have knowledge of the political process, congressional budget/appropriations process, grassroots outreach, the housing industry, trade association operations, and/or the regulatory process. A Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent in education and experience, is required. A Master’s or law degree is preferred. Some travel will be required.
