The curriculum-instructional specialist is defined as one whose primary concern is the improvement of learning opportunities through the provision of instructional leadership. Works in an instructional support capacity to provide professional learning, technical guidance and best practice resources and materials in the areas of literacy and language arts for TRS. The goal of the Literacy Support Teacher is to assist students who have been identified as at-risk with math intervention to provide a continuum of support and help them get on grade level.
Duties and Responsibilites:
Uses a variety of instructional techniques and literacy materials consistent with TEA?s reading/language arts.
Shall be familiar with RTI process and Tiered Instruction.
Partner with district and campus level leadership in directing instructional and curriculum services to meet student?s needs.
Collaborate with teachers individually to identify the literacy needs of students, to set learning goals and targets.
Uses a variety of manipulatives and hands-on activities to support content standards and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
Teach targeted literacy intervention to small groups of students daily using research-based strategies and resources.
Assist instructional staff in evaluating and selecting instructional materials to meet student learning needs.
Creates a classroom environment and research-based program of study that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
Plan the necessary time, resources, and materials to support accomplishment of educational goals.
Participate in TRS decision making process to establish and review the TRS? goals and objectives and major classroom instructional programs for Pre-K through 8th grade.
Make provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
Obtain and use evaluative findings, including student achievement data, to examine curriculum and instructional program effectiveness.
Conducts student assessments to identify those eligible for intervention services, to plan instruction, and/or to assist staff members in learning various assessment techniques. Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
Assist with the preparation of STARR testing.
Maintains and updates records for all students via Websmart.
Performs any additional duties related to ongoing effectiveness of program as directed.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree from a four year, accredited university. Master’s Degree preferred.
Certification: NCLB, Highly qualified valid Texas Teaching Certificate as required by teaching assignment or acceptance to approved Alternative Certification Program and results of TEXes exam.
Work Experience: 3 to 5 years of teaching experience
