Business License Clerk Jobs Vacancy in City Marietta Marietta Jobs Details:
This is an entry-level position within the Business License division of the Finance department which reports directly to the Business License manager. This position is responsible for assisting customers and processing applications for business licenses.
~ Assists customers (walk-in, phone, e-mail) with inquiries concerning fees, applications, City jurisdiction, interpreting codes, etc.
~ Processes regular business license applications, this includes:
o Determines jurisdiction from location of business.
o Assists customer with completing application forms
o Classifies businesses based on type, volume, gross income, numbers of employees, etc.
o Calculates fees by classification.
o Collects payment and issues receipt.
o Assigns each license an account number and enters into computer system.
o Processes payment and issues licenses with speed and accuracy.
o Files applications, payments pending, refunds and other Business License documents & forms.
~ Verifies all receipts and payments, balances work, and completes deposit.4. Composes and types letters to give customer a notice to respond within 10 days on all returned checks, collects payments and makes deposits.
~ Issues monthly bills for Hotel/Motel Occupancy Tax, verifies amount of fee and processes payments.
~ Receives monthly payments for beer, wine and liquor Excise Tax from all beverage wholesalers, (fees are calculated by the amount of gallons/liters of alcoholic beverages delivered into the city).
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Preferred Qualifications - ~ High school graduate or GED and 3 years related accounting or finance or equivalent experience. Prefer related experience in business license and applications processing.
~ Ability to learn city business license classifications.
~ Ability to type 45 words per minute with skill and accuracy. Test to be administered by city staff and accompany application.
~ Skill in mathematical computation and use of a calculator.
~ Ability to use personal computer with various software programs, as well as modern office equipment including fax, scanner, printer, and other office equipment as needed.
~ Ability to use on-line reference materials, i.e., maps , street listings.
~ Ability to compose effective and accurate correspondence. Must have excellent written and verbal communications skills.
~ Ability to handle and balance monies.
~ Ability to work independently.
~ Ability to organize and prioritize daily work.
~ Satisfactory completion of a credit history check after conditional offer of employment is made.
