Media Assistant 1: Perform a variety of routine library secretarial and clerical work associated with the organization and maintenance of printed materials and, in certain instances, audio-visual material.
Regular Education Assistant 2: Perform a variety of clerical and secretarial functions in the processing of students and student records. Responsible for computer input and retrieval and must make a variety of decisions within a framework of established procedures. Tasks are related to student records, schedules, attendance, enrollment, testing, and a variety of student-teacher record keeping. Must be detail-oriented, able to multi-task and collaborate with co-workers.
Bilingual Assistant 1: Provide effective assistance in the school classroom. Perform a wide variety of duties assisting the teacher in planning and preparing for classroom activities. Perform clerical duties, and work under the guidelines from the Title 1C-Migrant Education and ESL programs
A minimum of a high school diploma or its equivalent. Two years of post-secondary education, or an associate’s (or higher) degree; or high school diploma or equivalent, and a passing score on a state or local academic assessment that measures knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics may be required.
Knowledge of standard library practices, terminology, and procedures
General office skills, including word processing, filing, typing, and office machines
Familiarity with computer keyboards, and skill in the use of a word processor, including the use of automated library and research systems, and video production equipment
Ability to effectively work and communicate with students, parents, and school personnel from diverse cultures or backgrounds in English, Spanish, or other languages related to the job
Ability to work harmoniously with others and to communicate effectively with students, parents and teachers
Ability to follow general oral and written instructions
Skill in the use of office machines
Ability to read, write, and speak in English and Spanish fluently
Training or experience in working with youth
Knowledge of community resources
Reasonable knowledge of the basic elements of the teaching process and classroom management
Familiarity with computer keyboard and word processing
First Aid certification may be required, based on assignment
Ability to work independently and take initiative in task performance
General office procedure skills that include good written and oral communication and computer skills
Medication administration certificate may be required
The ability to work harmoniously with others
Bilingual English/Spanish Preferred (bilingual is defined as fluency in reading, writing and speaking two languages as determined by District screening tool)
"Highly Qualified" Status Required (two years of post-secondary education or an associates (or higher) degree; or District approved academic assessment)
Experience working in library and literacy field and with English Language Learners
