Are you seeking a career that makes a difference in the world? We are seeking a new member of our team who has experience in legal technology with a deep understanding of eDiscovery. As an eDiscovery professional, you will facilitate efficient eDiscovery processes to support Global Legal eDiscovery needs. In addition to effectively collaborating with a team of cross-functional areas such as Information Technology, Information Security, Privacy, and Business Units, you will also collaborate with outside counsel and vendor personnel. To accomplish this purpose, it is necessary for you to develop collegial and mutually positive relationships across Lilly components and with outside partners. Further, you will have opportunities to develop an expertise over time in evolving technology and provide eDiscovery guidance to various Lilly teams.

Responsibilities

Provide Legal eDiscovery Expertise and Support by working across teams

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, internal policies and internal quality systems
  • Provide high quality, timely and crucial eDiscovery advice (with appropriate consultation and supervision of licensed legal professionals) to enable well-informed decisions
  • Develop eDiscovery processes and procedures that meet business objectives while maintaining compliance with applicable regulations and internal policies
  • Support implementation of new technology, including development of new eDiscovery collection protocols and defensibility documentation
  • Ensure legal requirements are met for projects. Participate actively in making recommendations regarding proposed technology initiatives.
  • Cultivate relationships with personnel in Global Legal and other Lilly functional areas (i.e., Information Security, IT, Privacy, etc) to effectively influence the implementation of evolving technology and eDiscovery processes
  • Challenge teams to reach the best solutions to issues.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical skills and ability to address and effectively communicate eDiscovery issues
  • Effectively communicate both in written and oral form with members of leadership teams
  • Develop eDiscovery expertise to drive internal consistency and awareness related to eDiscovery standards
  • Provide guidance on development of case specific eDiscovery protocols, lead implementation to meet deadlines, and ensure appropriate defensibility documentation

Provide Leadership for Global Legal eDiscovery

  • Take a leadership role in the critical review of eDiscovery processes and procedures to ensure compliance with evidentiary requirements and standards
  • Establish trust and credibility through eDiscovery knowledge and influence others in a manner that creates maximum advantage for the organization
  • Lead assertively to meet timelines and elevate productivity throughout the development of eDiscovery protocols by setting priorities, finding innovative ways of doing essential work, and improving quality
  • Responsible for ensuring the success of our Legal and business partnerships
  • eDiscovery process ownership with focus on evolving technology and continuous improvements
  • Assist in the management of eDiscovery vendors

Achieve Results with People

  • Share with team current trends in eDiscovery
  • Strategize with internal and external teams on evolving technology and eDiscovery plans as well as case specific eDiscovery protocols
  • Identify and share learning regarding the practical implementation of eDiscovery strategy and initiatives
  • Participate in forums that share eDiscovery information across Global Legal, Information Security, and Information Technology components

Lead Development of Risk Mitigation Strategies for eDiscovery

  • Monitor and communicate factors and trends in the external environment related to evolving eDiscovery landscape
  • Communicate findings related to evolving eDiscovery case law and requirements
  • Support implementation of eDiscovery guidelines and standards

Exercise Accountability for Knowledge Transfer across Lilly Legal

  • Develop an understanding regarding the background of eDiscovery
  • Collaborate with other components in the legal organization (i.e. case managers, litigation attorneys, and attorneys handling privileged investigations) to facilitate sharing of information that allows the entire component to more effectively support eDiscovery and underlying legal needs
  • Become recognized as a technical authority in the area of eDiscovery
  • Attend internal and external training programs
  • Actively share lessons learned in forums and meetings

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor Degree
  • Minimum 3 years experience providing eDiscovery legal services
  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. Lilly does not anticipate providing sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B or TN status) for this employment position.

Additional Skills/Preferences
  • Strong understanding of eDiscovery techniques and standards
  • Previous experience working in a corporate environment
  • Knowledge of database/system collection, best practices and experience in developing strategy to address various challenges
  • Awareness of evolving technology and eDiscovery case law
  • Proven ability to assess and manage risk in a highly regulated environment
  • Strong written, spoken and presentation communication
  • Demonstrated negotiation and influence skills
  • Demonstrated attention to detail
  • Effective teamwork skills; able to adapt to diverse interpersonal styles
