Job TitleGroup VP, Engineering and Technology
The Group VP, Engineering and Technology implements technical operations and projects for all broadcast facilities as directed by the President of Meredith’s Local Media Group (LMG). This position will oversee all broadcast systems working closely with group leadership and station management to meet both group and local goals. The position will manage the group capital and technical expense planning, working with Finance to ensure yearly and quarterly budgets are met. A strong understanding of current technology trends is critical to the role. The candidate will represent Meredith LMG with key industry groups and meetings including NAB, Pearl, SBE, SMPTE. The Group VP, Engineering and Technology will utilize a hands-on approach to resolving operation and technical issues. A heavy travel schedule should be expected. The individual leads system design and equipment selection for both the group and local stations. Office location will be defined at time of employment.
Essential Job Functions
30% - Oversees implementation of projects as assigned by the President, LMG.
30% - Oversees the daily operation of broadcast business systems including modernization, new construction, new product deployment and training.
20% - Prepares, plans and reviews technical department budgets as assigned.
10% - Effectively communicates with staff and other departments within the Local Media Group. Participates in staff meetings and takes action to ensure information is exchanged and disseminated between staff and other departments in the Local Media Group.
5% - Works with stations to ensure facilities meet operations requirements by OSHA, FCC, federal, state and local agencies. Performs hands-on technical review of station operations to ensure compliance.
5% - Other duties as assigned, including, but not limited to, the engineering portion of the Strategic and Business Resumption plans and compliance with corporate policies.
Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements | All must be met to be considered.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent technical training and experience.
Experience: Previous employment as a Director of Engineering at the group level, Chief Engineer, or Systems Manager
Experience in broadcasting, production, or institutional organization is preferred.
Experience with centralized operations is highly desirable.
Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
A strong understanding of RF systems and knowledge of ATSC 1.0 and 3.0 standards.
Demonstrated experience in organizing and motivating personnel, with the ability to lead and manage many projects.
Possession of an FCC General Radiotelephone License or equivalent certification in broadcast engineering preferred.
General knowledge of all engineering fields including electrical, electronics, mechanical and civil engineering with a thorough understanding of electronics and broadcast engineering management.
Thorough understanding of FCC rules and regulations.
Ability to provide leadership of the technical staff to maintain and update broadcast quality television stations.
Ability to operate within allotted budgets.
Ability to design and implement changes to meet current and future needs.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Ability to meet deadlines and work well under pressure.
Ability to identify how technology can reduce operating costs and provide new business opportunities.
Extensive project management skills are required.
Ability to work independently within scope of responsibility.
Demonstrated experience in IT systems.
