The HR Generalist is responsible for providing and coordinating HR services that support Business Leaders and Associates at the Distribution Center. Understanding HR and Carhartt strategy, the HR Generalist provides nimble and dynamic services. The HR Generalist assists the HR Managers, HR Business Partners, and other HR staff to deliver HR services within the company, implement HR –related projects, and ensure collaboration with other HR functions, departments, and vendors. The HR Generalist may serve as the primary contact for HR issues, processes, and services for an assigned facility or shift.


  • Develop, implement, coordinate and administer human resources activities and programs
  • Responds to unemployment claim request. This includes responding to all unemployment filings in a timely and accurate manner, appealing determinations as appropriate, and representing Carhartt at unemployment hearings in order to effectively manage our unemployment expenses.
  • Manage projects and participate on project teams as assigned by the HR Management Team such as:
    • Departmental audits
    • Vendor selection, process, and oversight
    • System implementations, updates, and selections
  • Administer the new hire orientation and onboarding process for new associates by:
    • Preparing orientation materials, completing new hire paperwork, completing I-9 paperwork, entering e-verify information, coordinating logistics for NHO Orientation and conducting NHO sessions for assigned facilities
    • Collaborating with HR Business Partners to ensure onboarding and NHO are completed timely
    • Designing, updating, and maintaining NHO materials, presentations, and events to ensure a consistent and welcoming NHO experience for associates in supply chain
    • Conducting Onboarding surveys and analyzing survey results, making recommendations for updates as needed to better serve new employees
  • Gather and analyze data and create reports for HR Managers
    • Conducting exit interviews, documenting results, and enter data for tracking. Create reports on results and make recommendations to HR Managers for action.
    • Develop, analyze, and report out on key performance indicators, HR activity, and trends related to human capital to develop solutions to issues affecting the business
  • Provide direct support to Business by:
    • Assist associates with one-time and ongoing issues
    • Employee relation issues, investigations, and documentation
    • Supporting the Performance Management processes, systems, and activities
    • Coordinating the AIF process, and ensuring the accuracy and thorough completion of required documentation and communications when a change in an employee’s status is necessary
    • Facilitating training sessions for associates
    • Collaborating with other areas/departments to answer HR related questions and deliver on projects concerning HR disciplines such as Benefits, Wellness, Compensation, OE, Safety, and Workers Compensation
    • Supporting the open enrollment process for employees including coordinating communication tools and open enrollment meetings, assisting employees with form completion/selection choices, and coordinating health fairs and other events
    • Monitoring employment law postings in facilities to ensure compliance with state and federal requirements
    • Creating and maintaining documentation relating to personnel activities such as staffing, recruitment, training, performance evaluations, and discipline
  • Complete all other duties and special projects as assigned


  • Bachelor's Degree Required in Human Resources or Related Field
  • Equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of degree

Required Skills and Experience

  • One year of professional Human Resources or business-related work experience
  • Intermediate level computer skills – specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Certification of PHR, SHRM-CP or related HR professional designation/certification is preferred
  • Knowledge of relevant labor laws and regulations
